From Mora to Miravet ( 2 h 30’)
The "cubeta" in Mora
Maybe this is one of the most emblematic tours you can paddling at the Ebro river. One of the main reasons is the great Galatxo Island where you only can enter by canoeing, and the other reason is reaching the pintoresque village of Miravet from the river.
From Garcia to Benissanet or Ginestar
Calm islands
A wonderful Ebro, calm and truly amazing. Beyond the narrow gorge of the "Pas de l'Ase", the Ebro river basin is now entering Mora and widens forming islands like Galatxo and Subarreig: two true treasures that we enjoy from our canoe. From Zaidin to Fraga

We start from Zaidín. From this point you will not see any more villages from the river. The reason is that the people of the Cinca are a bit removed from the river because of the overflows. But the main reason is the lush riparian vegetation that rises on the shores of this beautiful Cinca you will discover today. If you usually have to attend to the explanations of our guides before you leave, if you chose this tour, now you'll have to put your five senses, to help capsizing. But do not panic: the peaceful and long backwaters are most common thant the brave ones. The curves of the river and the usual flow changes makes that river is never the same and we learn "reading the river." This is a technical tour. Although low difficulty, it is whitewater. We use open kayaks, but also can choose closed. They have a small watertight compartment for personal belongings. This route allows the variant to start in the beautiful village of Ballobar at the right shore of Alcanadre river (tributary of the Cinca). Just ask for this option if you want a longer trip. As in all other routes, the initial session explaining the route and technical and safety above all is included. Actually, it is very difficult to find anyone else in the river and in general, if you choose this option, you will have a day where you combine the enjoyment of silence in the calm stretches, the adrenaline flows and leaps that we will find and of course , so close to nature with its lush riparian forest. The arrival to Fraga is surprising when finding the bustle of the city after soaking in nature and silence of the day. Sure you will never forget, because you will have sailed by a surprising Cinca. Just ask for the 2 days Descent of Cinca (Ballobar - Mequinensa) with lodging and eating. |
Whole day: Vinebre to Miravet
Best Ebro in one day
We make this option if you have a whole day to really know the Ebro. Starting paddling from the unknown Vinebre to the iconic Miravet. Small towns with a large number of Ebro islands, clear water streams, a rich fauna and lush riverside forest in many places waits for you. From Vinebre to Móra de Ebro ( 2 h 30')
Crossing Pas de l’Ase Gorge
Truly one of the most beautiful options that can be done by canoe by the upper Ebro. This catalan river hides surprising places. The low number of visitors on this stretch of river make that we will enjoy this great natural environment that crosses this Gorge and the islands.
From Benifallet to Xerta
Reaching the weir ("azud")
The Ebro has left behind Barrufemes Gorge and continues its tortuous journey to the sea, now more calm in a sensational place. We will see a really wide Ebro and we will cross the river sluice through the navigation channel.

We see from the water, "Coll de Som" on the left, which is where the road formerly got Tortosa, before the Benifallet Bridge. On the right the foothills of the Ports Massif. We also let the Cardo Hills, a place where you need to return some day for a walk because it is an unknown and very worthwhile. Sure that one day you must climb the Mont Caro, the highest peak of the Ports and witnessed the passage of different cultures and civilizations. Like others in the area, the journey is full of remains of Iberian settlements, since the hills above the river were privileged places. The strategic location also favored quarry and cement plant on the banks of the river. We will see the rests. The proximity of the river, which was once the only way of communication was the reason for this location. For those who never crossed a river sluice, this will be the highlight of our journey. After the navigation channel, we enter the sluice and the door gets locked to let us down 7 meters, which separate us from the height of the river at the exit. This break of nearly 30 minutes, will be a good thing for the final part of our route and see the orange and lemon trees, famous of this land. When getting out of the sluice, we will see how the weir ("azud") looks like: Its origin is arab and is the starting point of Channels Right and Left of the Ebro, which are essential in providing water to the land Delta. It is possible to make a stop or end up in Tivenys village, only 20 minutes from our final Xerta. |
From Fraga to Granja d'Escarp

We start from Fraga, capital of the "West fringe" at the province of Huesca. During our tour, literally we paddle down the administrative border between Aragon and Catalonia. This is a technical tour. Although low difficulty, it is whitewater. We use open kayaks, but also can choose closed ones. They have a small watertight compartment for personal belongings. As in all other trades, includes initial session explaining the route and technical and safety above all. Actually, it is very difficult to find anyone else in the river and in general, if you choose this option, you will have a day where you combine the enjoyment of silence in the calm stretches, the adrenaline flows and leaps that we will find and of course , so close to nature with its lush riparian forest. In fact, the arrival is in full "Aiguabarreig" (rivers meeting point) where the rivers Segre and Cinca jointly arrive at the Ebre area especially rich in birds and fish. The village of Torrente de Cinca it's half way, and the grass "beach" is a good place to get have a rest; explain our emotions of the route or eat something. Even if you feel like going on, the route can be extended 50 min. more until Mequinenza, it is usually finished on the left bank, at the village called Granja d'Escarp, it is also the end of the stretch of whitewater. |
Ebro Meander in Flix
The Ebro's hug
In Flix, people use to say that since the Ebro is born in Santander to the sea, there is a place that the river itself elected to contemplate quietly and slowly. The spectacular 5-km meander hugging the village. It is an ideal choice for those starting in paddling or if you go with children.
From Miravet to Benifallet ( 2 h 10’)
Crossing Barrufemes Gorge
Some people says that this tour is one of the most beatiful at the Ebro river. In fact, if we consider the silence, we consider the mountain range of Pàndols and Cavalls and Cardó in the way to the sea, and also you love the forest at the river shore, we can say that this people is right. We strong recommend it during spring.

If this is one of the most touristic routes, there should be a reason for it. In fact, watching over the river from the C-12 road, is where lots of people decide that this river is more than a landscape and the good thing is the navigation on it. If the river impresses you from the mountain, just imagine how impressed would be about mountains from the river. It's an amazing sensation. Besaculs or Penjats are the name of its mountains. It would be a pity if you don't have the camera with you. Excepting for the Meander in Miravet, this route has no technique complication and becomes a nice experience, especially if you come with a high level flow, because you are not going to paddle so much. So it would be better during autumm or spring and also we recommend it during morning to help having the wind blowing against us. Some nice surprises to highlight, are coming inside an old arabic moulin, also knowing the Cataula and Nap Islands. This is just reaching the Benifallet bridge (Pont del Llaguter). This is dedicated to the ancient times where people of this area, surfed down this river using "llaguts" (wood long boats). This boats were pushed up the current walking up the shore with a string, so that this path is called string path or “Camí de Sirga”. If you want a great picture including Miravet Castle, the best one will be paddling at this tour. Highlights

From Tortosa to Amposta
Between capitals
We will find a calm Ebro, at a stage where you need a good physical shape to be comfortable at the canoe. We offer other routes with better sceneries and more river current, but the navigation between the Catalan Ebro capitals has a symbolic feeling.

If you are not making the whole Catalan Ebro Descent or a similar feat, we rarely recommend this route, because of its proximity to "civilization," yet has elements worth noting, for example the big arrival in Amposta with its hanging restored bridges In fact, just at the starting point, we highlight another bridge (one of the 4 we will cross down today): Millennium Bridge. It reminds us, with this name, the long history of Tortosa. As an historical element, we will find, though now no longer visible from the river due to high vegetation, the Carrova. They are the remains of medieval towers guarding the entrance of the Ebro. Only a point where you need to be aware that it is the mouth of the Left Ebro Channel, just before the railway bridge. Sometimes this Channel can download hard. What can we see from our canoe ?

From Xerta to Tortosa
Canoeing at the Ebro of the little islands
Very entertaining tour where we will spend time very fast. There are points on the river with different current velocities. Different islands and stopping points and especially the great contrast between the calm of the river shaded by riparian vegetation with the arrival -in that it seems from the water a big city-: Tortosa.

You won't imagine that this low Ebro could be so entertaining, especially if we know the sections of Benifallet. In fact, when we organized the kayak-orientation (fun activity to find markers hidden in the river), we usually use this stretch. After departure, we cross in front Masos island and also we visit Xiquina or Audi Islands, large nature reserves and vegetation and are protected natural areas. An interesting fact in this stretch is possible to stop in different villages or "explore" islands and transform a 2 hours tour in pretty more. So we pass Aldover, Bítem and Jesus, but not until the arrival in Tortosa (we stop at the rowing club dock) which you don't realise of the surprising contrast to the quiet hours we have had, with the usual bustle of a city like Tortosa. |
From Flix to the Mediterranean Sea
Whole catalan Ebro river Descent in stages.
We suggest a true adventure:Going from the last dam at the Ebro river, where the water starts to flow freely, just to the sand at the Mediterranean beaches. Adapting the stages to your characteristiques and suitable to everyone, is an unforggetable experience.Fayon: A sunken village
The inhospitable Ebro
The Riba-roja dam construction in 1967 had a terrible consequence: the villages of Fayón and Mequinenza would be flooded under the waters. Departing on the Matarranya's Mouth, we will have the chance to discover an unknown Ebro river and touching the church tower that still protrudes from the water under the watchful eye of the new village.

Whether navigating a swamp, makes the technical difficulty of this route is very low and suitable for everyone. The current Ebro rarely leads here. Fayón is located between Mequinenza and Riba-roja d'Ebre. The mouth of Matarraña serves as administrative boundary between Catalonia and Aragon. Although the current Fayón is located at the top of the mountain near the original village was built at the confluence of two rivers (Bugarreig). In fact, our starting point is in the Matarraña river and we leave at the Ebro Once on the Ebro, we will see the chapel on top of St. Jorge from the water, which was once the top of the village. But what stands out is the tower of the church of Baroque and Renaissance (XVI) that more than four decades later is a silent witness to what was a tragedy for this town. This huge Ebro make us feel tiny in our kayak, a very slightly built area, rich in eagles and vultures. A great area in the border Catalonia - Aragon worth knowing. The area is rich in fish, for those of you to be fans. The round trip takes about 2 hours. If we have a breakfast in there, a little more. What can we see from our canoe?
