GR-99 The "Sirga" path
La ruta del Ebro
|
The path GR-99 follows the 900 kilometer down the river Ebro from its birth to the mouth at the Mediterranean Sea. We propose you just a little trip at the catalan county of Ribera d'Ebre. From Riba-roja d'Ebre until Móra d'Ebre. Here it is known as "Camí de Sirga" (Rope's Path). That was the old path for the men who pushed the old boats up to the river when it was the only way of comunication. Nature and history in a soft cycling... Depending on the length you like, you can make shorter from the beginning and starting in Flix or maybe shorter at the end and finishing in Garcia instead of Móra d'Ebre. In spite of your decision, you should know that the Flix dam, has generated a natural place that worths a visit. It's a Natural Reserve called Reserva Natural de Sebes. Just in there we will visit the Rope's Path Museum Centre d'Interpretació del Camí de Sirga, where we will learn about the "llaguters". These "llaguts" were the ancient boats to transport through the river all the goods before the railway and roads. If they were lucky, and the wind was blowing river up, they use the wings to sail, but if not they had to push up with the ropes from the shore. Our cycling day is in this path so it is a low level activity. After the Natural Reserve, we will love the brand new path around the Flix Meander, (in fact the name of the village meant in latin language a big curve). After crossing a big fruit tree fields, we will reach Vinebre and then Ascó trough the bridge and we will be located on the right shore. Once in the "Pas de l'Ase" Gorge we will enjoy beatiful views. A final silent path, will take us to our end in the village of Garcia or maybe reaching Móra d'Ebre. The best in this bike tour:
